A Christmas message from Malawi
Christmas time. Like every year the workers celebrated the last day before Christmas holidays with a feast at the main office with food and soft drinks. But as it is is also the year 2020 it is sadly the first year since 2005 where John & Mary were not able to fly to Malawi due to… I am sure you already guessed it!
As Cristina and I were able to fly, nevertheless we surprised the factory & office workers and those from the Lusangazi farm, at the factory, and John & Mary and Éamonn joined us by video call on “a big screen” – the wall of the pump factory with a projector kindly donated by a media company in Germany.
We had a loudspeaker and all workers were really excited to see John and Mary. There were many stories to be told… “What is the name of your new kid?”, “How is your daughter doing in Secondary School?”, “How is the planting process going on?” and also a lot of compliments for great work done e.g. by the pump maintenance team which serviced more than 800 pumps in 2020, installed about 130 wells and the forestry team establishing 4 nurseries with a whopping 2 million indigenous seedlings, the preschools, the Girl Child Student Project and on and on the list goes…
There was special Christmas food and drinks and we were able to distribute about 50 kg of clothes and shoes donated by students in Germany. Even though John & Mary could not be here this year the workers felt their presence and their uplifting and encouraging spirit for this Christmas Season.
After this gathering everybody went home, with their pockets full of money (as payday was before Christmas) and clothes and their stomachs filled with plenty of tasty food.
Merry Christmas to you all and thank you for your constant support!
Kevin & Cristina,
