This would go even further than those 11 Health Clinics that we support through our Land Restoration project. At these our workers and those from surrounding remote areas can access an incredible resource for the community, and people who have no way to get into a town can access medical services, advice and counselling. On their monthly (or sometimes more often) visits to the different areas the medical team offers contraception, an antenatal clinic, nutrition, first aid, cancer screening and medical referrals. Most Land Restoration nurseries now have a Health Clinic running alongside it or at least shared amongst a neighbouring nursery depending on logistics.
These Clinics are run with the support of the North Mzimba Health Board, two old Mission Hospitals and most recently one South Mzimba Health Board Clinic. They generally provide the medicines and we provide the transport and pay the eight nurses they give us. They have considered the project so successful that they have allocated three Permanent District Nurses to live in three of our areas.
The North Mzimba Health Board have funding for Nurses and all medicines at 15 Health Clinics they used to regularly attend.
But currently they have no funding for fuel for the Ambulances to get there.
Could you help with this?
