In 2014 we were selected by Lucan Lions Club to be awarded one of their cheques for our work. They generally give awards to groups who work locally and we were really delighted that they included us.
It is a huge amount of money and we will certainly make good use of it.
A full 100% of this donation gets all the way to our projects in Malawi, as we pay all the expenses.
The pic shows Anne Murtagh (President) and Eilene Tucker (Treasurer) presenting the cheque to Mary Coyne of w4z on the right.
A little bit about the Lucan Lions Club:
Lucan Lions Club was established in 1988 and is made up of local people, many of whom are known to you. It is part of Lions Club International which is the largest service club organisation in the world with the members or volunteers in Lucan being part of a global organisation with over 1.4m members and active in 34,000 communities across the world. These places are as diverse as Iceland and Israel, Australia and Argentina. Lions are ordinary people who achieve extraordinary things!
The main purpose of all clubs including our club in Lucan is dedication to selfless but effective community service. This is done by a series of service events or projects during the year to fundraise. Over the years, Lucan Lions Club has provided assistance to a wide variety of local projects including Chernobyl Children’s Appeal, Lucan Hedgehogs – Special Olympics Club, the Bush Centre, Lucan Senior Citizens and even on occasion Liffey Sound FM.
We have had amazing support from the community in Lucan and without their help, assistance and constant support; we could not achieve any of this. The motto for Lions Clubs is “We Serve” and with the support of the local community, we achieve amazing things! As a volunteer organisation, when a euro is raised, it goes directly to charity.
All administration costs are borne by the members of the club who pay an annual membership fee.
In 2015 we were selected again by Lucan Lions Club to be awarded a €1000 cheque for our work in Malawi.
Their continued support is of great help to us financially and it is great to know we are backed by our village neighbours.
Just like the last cheque 100% of this cheque will end up in Malawi doing good work.
