After drinking water from unprotected wells for 20 years, the people of Bawa can now breathe a sigh of relief as they finally have access to clean, safe water thanks to Wells for Zoë, who have connected the village to a new well. The village headman of the Mzoma area expressed his gratitude, saying that with this potable water, the waterborne diseases that have long affected the community will become a thing of the past. It was revealed that although a borehole had been drilled years ago, it was non-functional, leaving residents to rely on contaminated sources.
The villagers primarily grow maize and beans, but local vendors often purchase their produce at low prices, leaving the community with little benefit from their hard work.
