Davie Mtika

Teacher – Maths

He was born in the Karonga district, three hours from Mzuzu, and is the 7th child of 8 brothers and 1 sister. Now he lives in Mzuzu with his family. His mum lives in Rumphi, another district. He studied technical education in Malawi Polytechnic.

He is married to Bertha Munthali and they have two lovely daughters, Ulunji and Ungweru. Ulunji means righteous and Ungweru means light.

In 2012 his family moved to Mzuzu because he got a job in Mzuzu Government Secondary School, that’s were he works during the week, together with Future (another WfZ teacher), who told him that WfZ needed a maths teacher. In 2015 he started working part-time after his interview with Florence. He is happy with the latest improvement in Wells for Zoë that consists of picking-up the girls on Saturday and bringing them back home after the classes.

Some girls live 1-2 hours away from the Centre for Learning at Luwinga, where the Saturday classes take place; it is great they haven’t to walk such a long distance” – he said.
